Lessons from an Olive Tree; Thrive

But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever. Psalm 52:8

Recently, I went to the Mediterranean, and I was enamored by the Olive tree groves and the importance of that tree to the world. I was encouraged to research it more!

The more I learned about the olive tree, the more I appreciate this creation. Its almost as if God designed it to be a living parable. David seemed to know this when he wrote.

But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever. Psalm 52:8

Here are some facts about the olive tree:

• Some olive trees are over 3,000 years old. They were standing when David wrote the Psalms. They were there during the life of Christ. They are still producing fruit today.

• Olive trees thrive in rocky, dry, difficult soil, the kind of conditions that would kill most other plants.

• A green olive and a black olive are actually the same fruit. Green is early, not yet ripe. Black is fully mature. Same tree, same olive, just a different season. And the riper it is, the richer the oil.

The older the olive tree, the more fruit it produces. Not less. More.

• Olive trees must be pruned like grapevines, to produce their very best fruit.

• When olive trees grow close together, their root systems intertwine. They share nutrients. They hold each other up in drought.

• And to get olive oil? You have to press the fruit. No pressing, no oil.

As I get older, I feel like I identify with this. how about you?

“Rooted deep.

Still wanting to produce.

Shaped by hard seasons.

Made stronger by the people around them.”

So using the word Thrive, the olive tree and scriptures, I created an acrostic, just for you.

Thriving is not about your age. It’s about where you are rooted

This meant that God is past, present, and future. He goes before us, stands with us, and remains after us. His presence is constant, unchanging, and faithful.
